Kundong Numu Kunda Village
We have worked with Drop4Drop on a project in The Gambia which benefits 400 people and this is a little bit more about it.
“This is a community made up of about 400 people. It is made up of the Mandinka tribe. The village was founded by a section of the Mandinka tribe called ‘’Numoo’’ meaning traditional blacksmiths. Thus, the name Numu Kunda is applied to the name of the community depicting the historical facts about the village. The ‘’Numoo’’ used to be in the lower caste in the ancient Mandinka caste system. The community used to be marginalized but nowadays things are opening up. They are currently facing severe clean water crisis as the only water source is broken and as a result, they walk long distance to fetch water from neighbouring communities which is not often friendly.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
